Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
(Based on the standard Torex syrup formulation):
-
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride (≈ 12.5 mg per dose): A first-generation antihistamine that suppresses cough reflex and reduces sneezing and throat irritation.
-
Ammonium Chloride (≈ 125 mg): Expectorant that thins mucous, helping ease clearance of chest congestion.
-
Terpin Hydrate (≈ 7.5 mg): Loosens thick phlegm and promotes mucus flow.
-
Sodium Citrate (≈ 55–60 mg): A mucolytic agent that breaks down mucus, making coughs more effective.
-
Menthol (in selected variants): Provides a cooling sensation and acts as a mild penetration enhancer.
Together in capsule form, they work synergistically to reduce cough reflex, thin mucus, and improve phlegm expulsion.
